Magna Science Adventure

by Lydia (follow)
Explore the wonders of science and technology

Magna Science Adventure is a fantastic interactive science centre, which is set in the former Templeborough steelworks. There are over a hundred hands-on exhibits themed around the elements needed to make steel and these are included in four pavilions; Air, Earth, Fire and Water. It is a vast building, 1/3rd of a mile long and 150ft high, rich with the industrial heritage of the region's steel industry.

More than 15 metres overhead, high up in the rafters of Magna is the Air Pavilion. This giant suspended ‘Zeppelin’ is home to an array of exciting, hands-on, air-themed activities. Here you can create stunning patterns with air cannons, witness a selection of humorous and disastrous attempts at early flight and explore how sound is made.

Next up is the Earth Pavilion which is below ground! It is filled with rugged hands-on games, real life JCBs, hoppers and buckets to race and fill and a quarry face to explode. The Fire Pavilion has lots of amazing attractions to touch, feel and investigate. Here you can experience the five metre fire tornado, the arc furnace and the electromagnetic crane.

The last pavilion is the Water pavilion and it provides hours of ‘soaking fun’. This giant steel wave, houses a selection of interactive games and challenges that explore the astonishing world of water. The huge, steel Water Wheel seems to power the whole pavilion and raining clouds overhead mean that your chances of staying dry in 'Water' are very slim!

During the summer they have an outdoor water park called Aqua-Tek which is an adventure in all things water. The other outdoor space is Sci-Tek which is an outdoor wonderland of texture, colour and fascinating features. There are trampoline sets, spinning bowls, tilted roundabouts, twisted slides, rockets and castles here for children to explore and to set their imagination alight. Sci-Tek and Aqua-Tek have an additional charge to enter.
